Ptosis ( Eyelid Droop Repair) E-mail
Ptosis is a condition where the upper eye lid is drooping so as to cover the pupillary area, thereby affecting sight. It is a cosmetic deformity too.

It is caused because of weakness of the Levator Palpebrae muscle of the eyelid. This could be congenital ( since birth ) or could be  traumatic because of an accident.

In congenital variety it has to be operated as soon as possible if it is obstructing vision.

The procedure involves a tightening of the muscle responsible for lifting the upper eyelid. Many a times, in severe forms the upper lid  may have to suspend to the forehead muscles to help lift the eye lid.

The procedure is usually done under anaesthesia in children and under local aneasthesia in adults.T

he incision is in the upper lid and the affected muscle is identified and shortened or tightened according to the problem and then sutured in place.

In the initial phases the operated eyelid may remain open or may look overcorrected which usually settles down with time.

Proper eye care as advised has to be taken as advised to prevent any occular complications.
